A bit of history - In 1928 Jacob Ritter founded our company specializing in the manufacturing and selling wooden boxes for industry. The Great Depression of 1929 forced the company to restructure and in 1932 Jacob started processing thermoplastic boxes and cases for razors, powder and jewelry. After the war woodworking was re-established producing different parts for televisions. During this time he started processing plastics, manufacturing products such as buttons and cigarette holders. In 1948 the first pens and ink refills were manufactured and shown at the first major trade fairs (Frankfurt Spring Fair and the Hannover Fair in 1949). By 1956 the first ballpoint pen with plastic mechanics came on the market. The 60’s were dominated by the company’s expansion, buildings were constructed for mould injecting and tool making. 1972 marks the "Birth Year” of the legendary 280 pen, leading the way and setting new standards in the writing instrument industry.

Standards of Ritter-Pen GmbH - Ritter-Pen shall ensure compliance with all ethical and social policies drawn from the principles of internationally recognized standards ; such as Children and Youth Protection, Respect for Human Rights and Reconciliation of Family and Professional Life. Your corporate pen made of plants

Replacing oil as a raw material with a renewable raw material source allows the saving of fossil resources and a reduction of CO2 emissions. The development and processing of bioplastics is a step towards a more sustainable future. We must learn to give up finite resources to protect our environment.

Sustainability gets a novel shape with this writing instrument. This unique German ballpoint pen consists of at least 70% cellulose acetate, a renewable, biobased material. The pusher is optionally available in either transparent ABS plastic or cellulose acetate. Due to the nature of the material there may be color variations at the barrel and clip. This ECO-LINE ballpoint pen is equipped with a replaceable quality Jogger refill.

It is our special strength to make writing instruments not only functional, but also original and distinctive. Our pens have a unique design language, a specific “Ritter” look. Our products are characterized by their unusual shape, texture and color. A look at the Ritter-Pen range shows a wide variety of diversity and innovation: Trendy colors, soft grips, moving beads on the clip, aerodynamically styled surfaces ; soft stress-ball pushers ... the possibilities are endless. With an almost unlimited range of “Mix & Match” colors, customizing your pen to compliment your advertising message or corporate identity is possible.

Ritter-Pen uses natural, completely biodegradable and biobased bioplastic for the production of ECO-LINE pens.

This plastic is derived from the cellulose. Cellulose is a natural polymer that forms the main component of a plant cell wall. Wood, for example, is rich in cellulose and serves as a raw material for the production of our materials. Cellulose acetate, a thermoplastic material, can be obtained from cellulose though the special treatment process. Our raw materials come from local and sustainably managed forests making this bioplastic a material of high added value.

Our ECO-LINE pens contain a large percentage of this natural bioplastic, between 70 and 90%. To ensure exceptional structural integrity a small amount of traditional ABS materials are used for the components that are exposed to high mechanical stress. This cellulose acetate is scratch and heat resistant. Due to the nature of the material we offer only natural color selection. However, the ABS plastic parts will provide richer quality and a perfect surface for colorful and vibrant imprints. Most of ECO-LINE pens are DIN biobased certified.

Our products do not contain any toxic and harmful substances.

Refill : Just as the engine of a sports car, a refill is the high-tech heart of the Ritter-Pen. Since the 1960's a specialists has been producing more than eight billion refills, giving them much experience in their field as Ritter-Pen in manufacturing of pens. German-Swiss engineering and manufacturing in Switzerland guarantees consistent quality at the highest level. Do not be guided by appearances only, quality should always take precedence when deciding which pen shall carry your company promotional message. All refills at Ritter-Pen meet ISO standards 12757-1 and 12757-2.

End of life cycle

Without leaving harmful residues these bioplastics can be decomposed by microorganisms leaving behind only water, carbon, and biomass. Permanent higher temperatures and adequate moisture are needed for an optimal decomposition; similar conditions that prevail in industrial composting. The biodegradability of this material on an industrial scale is confirmed in accordance with DIN EN 13432:2000-12.

The best solution is to use our pen as long as possible (reuse) by replacing refill. Once the pen is improper for use it should go to the normal garbage bin.

Disposal of this bioplastic in the general household waste is contributing to the energy recovery through thermal treatment. It releases the same amount of non-toxic emissions generated by burning or composting of raw material (e.g. wood). There is no general regulation, which governs the recycling of this kind of plastics, therefore, we believe that a proper thermal treatment is the best solution to dispose these bioplastics for the time being.
